Close Relationship
with ITRI TRI
benefits ITIC in both technical due-diligence and deal sourcing.
In return, ITIC has been responsible for creating opportunities
of technology commercializing for ITRIs laboratories
while concurrently generating exceptional returns for ITRI.
With the breadth and depth of its research capabilities, ITRIs
world-class research institution has supported ITICs
venture capital practice, collectively driving and transforming
Taiwans high technology movement.
One
of the important roles ITRI plays is providing assistance
on technical due diligence. Due to ITRIs abundant research
professionals, ITIC is able to utilize this resource and invest
in seed to early-stage companies. ITICs team is constantly
interacting with respective senior managers from ITRI, sharing
detailed technical issues, which ultimately results in a more
knowledgeable and experienced team in terms of technical due-diligence
capabilities.
As the VC arm of ITRI,
ITIC enjoys a great amount of deal flow from this relationship.
An example of this deal flow source is Taiwan Mask Corp. (TMC).
Founded in 1988, TMC is an early venture investment of ITIC
where ITIC facilitated its spin-off from ITRI. TMC went public
in 1995 and is currently the largest provider of mask service
in Asia except Japan. Another deal flow source ITIC enjoys
is through the process of technology transfer. EPISTAR, leveraging
ITRIs technology, was founded in 1996. ITIC served as
one of the founding partners for EPISTAR, which went public
in 2001. Today, it is one of the major LED manufacturers in
Taiwan.
